Ray is aiming to raise £75000 for Newman Special School in Rotherham by Running 75 Marathons
in 75 Days starting on his 75th Birthday.
That is a distance of over 1965 miles and further than the distance between Manchester and Ibiza!
This is a superhuman effort for an incredibly worthy cause, The GMB Rotherham have sponsored race numbers 1 and 75.
The money that Ray is raising will be used to provide the school with a rubberised play surface and specialised play equipment. With out Ray breaking the world record and raising the money the school could not possibly afford the equipment which will drastically improve the ability of the children to be able to play outdoors safely.
The first race will take place on Saturday 2nd July at Herringthorpe Athletics Stadium and a marathon will be run each day until Wednesday 14th September.

Ray is hoping for a good turn out so come along to Herringthorpe Stadium from 09:30 on the 2nd July to see Ray commence his world record breaking feat.
Former boxer Ray, only took up running aged 60 after watching the London Marathon on television.
The next year he entered the race, completing it in under four hours.
Ray, from Maltby, said: “My best before date is closing in as fast as an express train.
“But before that happens I would be so proud to achieve a world record and to raise £75,000 to provide rubber playground areas and entertainment facilities for children at Newman School, in Rotherham.”
He said: “It will be run at a steady pace so most people can join in and run beside me. We have set up the routes in loops instead of having a straight long line between two points so people can join in for just 5k or 10k.”
His 75 marathons will also see him fly to Saint Quentin in northern France, which is twinned with Rotherham, for his 50th and 51st marathons.
GMB is proud to be associated with such an epic challenge.
