In a letter to all employees sent by the Leader of the Council Cllr Rodger Stone he said "It is clear from the announcements made in recent weeks and the messages that are coming out of the Conservative/LibDem Government that tough times lie ahead for everyone." This is so very true. We find ourselves in a situation which in Rotherham is unprecedented.
RMBC have met with The GMB to discuss the current situation and have vowed to work closely with us to keep the job losses to a minimum. In the Friday 23rd July addition of the Rotherham Advertiser it warns "1,000 JOBS AT RISK IN CRISIS CUTS" at this stage The GMB have not heard any information that the cuts will impact on jobs in Rotherham to that degree and we feel that at this stage this is scaremongering and speculation. However the situation is very grave and The GMB has been issued notice that there is at this point in time 79 posts that have been designated at risk.
We have been informed that this won't be the last of it however and at this stage we are aware of potential job losses within CYPS. We will of course be having regular meetings with the Council and we will be updating our members the moment new information becomes available. The GMB believes that we have an important job to do for our members in Rotherham and we will be giving this our full attention, communicating directly with our members and not through the press.
The ConDem Government is slashing here and cutting there, all at the expense of providing excellent public services in Rotherham. It’s quite unbelievable that Ministers preach pay and pensions restraint while quietly pocketing jaw-dropping pension rises. The stench of hypocrisy is overwhelming. GMB members on poverty pay levels in the public sector are told they face job losses, pay freezes and pension cuts by government ministers who are taking massive hikes to their own pensions. It’s a real sickener and the ConDem Ministers should hang their heads in shame. Obviously ‘we’re all in it together’ doesn’t apply to these fattest of fat cats.
