The pay claim for 1.6m local authority staff has now been formally submitted by GMB and other unions.  It can be found on by clicking here.

The claim seeks a “A substantial flat rate increase on all scale points as a step towards the longer term objective of restoring pay levels and achieving the living wage as the bottom NJC spinal column point”.

There has been a 3 year pay freeze in local government and the unions have jointly pledged to break this.  Meanwhile the employers have already stated publicly that they are preparing to offer something on pay but at the expense of possibly draconian cuts in terms and conditions.

I’ve warned the employers that council staff will not be fooled by an offer that gives something with one hand and takes it all back with the other.  This will not be acceptable.

When the employers have considered our claim and make their offer I will let you know.
