Funded Distance Learning Courses
GMB just been made aware that RMBC staff can access 17 different distance learning opportunities. Staff will not have to meet any criteria other than to have lived within the EU for the last three years (but not on a student visa) be over 19 years of age and not be in full time study.
Please find below information on a range of distance learning programmes, which lead to nationally accredited qualifications. These are fully funded Level 2 qualifications, which means they are available at no cost to you. Available in workbooks and online with no requirement to visit college as part of your study. They can be completed in approximately 16–24 weeks and tutor support is provided by phone and/or email.
Customer Service Knowledge
This course is ideal for learners who are entering the field of customer service for the first time. It is particularly relevant for anyone who deals with customers either internal or external to their organisation as a major part of their job role. As well as people in retail organisations, this will include many service industries and public sector organisations.
Contact Centre Operations.
This engaging e-learning resource will enable learners to achieve the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Contact Centre Operations. It provides learners with an opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required to make an effective contribution to a general contact centre environment. This concise online programme will help to support work roles in a wide range of sectors, including customer support, direct sales, technical assistance, emergency call handling, and customer care.
Business and Administration
The programme is ideal for learners who wish to gain the underpinning knowledge and understanding needed to work successfully in a business environment. It will be particularly valuable to those who currently work in an administrative role and wish to achieve a qualification to support their work.
Principles of Sales
This concise online programme covers the essential skills and knowledge required to identify and meet customers needs, understand relevant regulatory requirements, apply legislation and adopt ethical behaviour in sales-related activities. Filled with user-friendly and fully interactive content, the programme is presented in easy to follow, bite-sized modules.
Equality and Diversity
The programme is designed for anyone who wishes to develop their knowledge of the issues and anti-discrimination laws that relate to equality and diversity. The qualifications are ideal to support continuous professional development for people who are already in work. However, the underlying principles of the programme are applicable to all walks of life, exploring diversity issues that are relevant at school, college, work, and in social situations, making the course suitable for a wide range of learners.
Information, Advice and Guidance.
The Award and Certificate are ideal for anyone with an interest and/or some involvement in information, advice or guidance delivery in their work but not as their main role, for example: learning support workers; mentors; people working in voluntary organisations or with adult or community groups; tutors and outreach workers.
This online programme is ideal for anyone who is interested in gaining an understanding of the benefits of exercise and fitness. It will be particularly useful to people who want to work in the sports and fitness industry, as well as those wishing to return to education or those preparing for work.
Nutrition and Health.
This qualification is ideal for a wide range of learners who, with some existing knowledge of this area, are interested in improving their understanding of nutrition and healthy eating. It will be particularly relevant for those working, or intending to work, in settings such as sport and recreation, exercise and fitness, hospitality and catering or health care, providing specific skills and knowledge to support their role in the workplace.

Principles of Dementia Care
End of Life Care
Understanding End of Life Care will be ideal for health and social care workers who wish to improve their knowledge and understanding of end of life and palliative care. It also has relevance to all types of care settings, including hospices, care homes, care in the community and primary care.
Mental Health Awareness
This qualification aims to broaden learners knowledge of mental ill-health and the most commonly diagnosed mental health conditions. Learners will develop an awareness of the signs and symptoms of these conditions and how they may affect peoples day-to-day lives. They will also gain an insight into how these conditions can be successfully managed.
Diabetes Care and Management
Understanding the Care and Management of Diabetes will be ideal for anyone whose work may bring them into contact with people who have diabetes. This includes health-care workers, people who work with children and young people, and those employed in the uniformed services. It may also be of interest to people who have diabetes themselves.
Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
This course is appropriate for a wide range of learners. The qualification is applicable to a range of care settings and roles, and will be ideal for support workers, domiciliary and residential care workers, health care assistants and unpaid and voluntary carers.
Safe Handling of Medicines
This course is designed for learners aged 18 or over, who wish to develop their knowledge of the safe handling of medicines. It is ideal for those who are already employed in a health and social care context, who wish to study the programme as part of their own continuous professional development.
